歌名的意思是“不公正的法庭，非法法庭”（a mock court in which the principles of law and justice are disregarded or perverted）
这个习语的来源也颇有争议。有些资料记载它是在1849年加州淘金热时期流行起来的，因为当时缺乏有效政府机制，人们只能仓促地设立“袋鼠法庭”来处理淘金者之间的争端。另外的认为这个习语描述一种跳跃性的司法过程，就像袋鼠一样，因为当时的私设法庭很不规范。还有人认为此短语可以与袋鼠巨大的育儿袋联系起来，暗讽私设法庭屈服于某些人的淫威下。
